The La Jolla Country Day School community got to experience a thrilling weekend of baseball at Petco Park as alum Tommy Edman ’13 started all three games for the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Torrey fans flocked to the ballpark to support Tommy and they weren’t disappointed as he played flawless defense and crushed a home run against the San Diego Padres.
Tommy was a star for the Torreys from 2010-2013. He holds multiple team records and helped lead the baseball team to the CIF Championship in 2011. Tommy then went on to play at Stanford University where he was named First Team All-Pac 12 and Academic All-Pac 12 while earning a degree with a double major in math and computational science.
Tommy was a 6th round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2016. He has since worked his way through the minor leagues until being called up by the Cardinals on June 8. He has certainly taken advantage of his opportunity by playing great baseball for the Cardinals.
Tommy was gracious with his time over the weekend meeting with hundreds of fans who came to see him play. Torrey Nation is so proud of Tommy. He is a true person of character who represents our school with dignity and class. He is a role model to our young Torreys by demonstrating that hard work, determination, and character are attributes that will lead to success. Tommy defines the term scholar-athlete. Torrey Nation wishes Tommy all the best as he continues on with his professional career.
