Dear Loyal Torrey MS Basketball Fans,
Your Torreys improved to 5-1 on the season with an exciting 38-36 victory over a tough (previously undefeated) Coronado MS. The Torreys were able to avenge their opening game loss to the Tritons and take possession of first place in the South division of the South Coast MS League standings. The Torreys needed a total team effort to pull out the victory. No Torrey scored in double digits but timely scoring from Gianno Kassab ’24 (6 pts), Jaden Mangini ’24 (6 pts) and Isaac Herman ’25 (3 pointer to take the lead) provided just enough scoring and the defense of Brayden Aires ’24 and Will Stickney ’24 help key the Torreys comeback. Reid and Luke Givens ’25 played tough inside, rebounding and scoring tough baskets. Mason Mackin ‘24 provided a spark defensively and with some key drives to the basket. James Wei ’24 continued his solid play with tough inside rebounding and nailing a huge 3 pointer during the Torreys comeback from 7 points down. Tommy Carney ’24 got the Torreys started on the right foot with strong drives to the hoop and also starting our fast breaks, which allowed the Torreys to get great scoring opportunities. Finn Allford ’24 and Jack Levin ’25 made the most of their opportunities with some great rebounds (and boxouts) which allowed the Torreys to get crucial possessions to help the their team close out the game. We will now take the show on the road the remainder of the season, starting this WEDNESDAY when we play at CHRISTIAN (EL CAJON) with a 3:15 tip off. We will travel by bus and return to school for pickup in the gym parking lot at approximately 5:45.
