Congratulations to LJCDS Women's Basketball Head Coach Terri Bamford who was inducted into the Breitbard Hall of Fame on Monday at the Salute to the Champions ceremony. Coach Bamford has recorded over 700 victories, 20 league titles, 15 CIF titles, nine regional titles, four state titles, and one (unofficial) national title.
"It's quite an honor," Bamford said. "So many great coaches and players and people in that (hall), and just to be recognized as one of those is really special."
Coach Bamford came to LJCDS as an assistant coach in 1997 and took over the women's basketball program in 1999. Through her hard work and dedication, she has been able to turn a struggling program into one of the best in the country. San Diego has had eight McDonald's All-American girls basketball players and five played for Coach Bamford: Candice Wiggins, Kelsey Plum, Te-Hina Paopao, Breya Cunningham, and Jada Williams.
More from Coach Bamford:
"For me it's super rewarding when I see a kid that has a dream and we need to be able to be part of that journey and help them fulfill that part of the dream. It's a calling. I think God put me here for a reason. We've had such great players but all of them needed some guidance in some way, whether it be leadership or whatever it was to help them to get where they wanted to go. It's been really rewarding."
"Just really proud of that journey and watching these kids develop and competing and learning what it is to be a great teammate. That's what's rewarding for me. That's why I do it."
