Dear Loyal Torrey Football Fans,
Unfortunately, your Torreys (9-4) magical season came to an end last night after losing to #2 seeded Serra HS (10-2), 76-36. To open the game, our offense quickly advanced into the Conquistadors’ redzone, but we failed to score and Serra responded with a quick touchdown of their own. Serra would keep the momentum throughout the first half and we just weren’t able to make the big play when we needed. The boys never gave up and left it all on the field, which is all we ever ask for, it just wasn’t our night against and excellent Serra team.
Serra will take on Santana (and Ryan LaRiccia’s ’17 brother Cameron) in the D4 championship next Friday. Additionally, huge congratulations to 2016 defensive coordinator Tyler Roach on leading his La Jolla Vikings to the D3 championship next week.
See below for more about the game:
I can’t say enough about how proud I am of this team, in particular our seniors, for the way they rebounded this season with fierce determination after a challenging 2018 season. I am grateful for all of the hard work of our amazing coaching staff and trainers, and the unwavering support of our administration and fans like all of you. This wasn’t the ending we hoped for, but as the end of the season sinks in and I reflect on these pass four months, my heart is full and I am overwhelmed with the joy of many new memories.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks as I share news of our all league selections, team awards, and a number of new CIF and LJCDS records that we broke this fall; just to give you a taste of some of our accomplishments:
QB EJ Kreutzmann ‘20 became the first 5,000 yard passer in CIF-SDS history and passed Braxton’s single season records for TD passes and completions
WR Daniel Rosenberg ’21 became the county’s second player to catch over 100 passes in a season
Nick Albert ’20 finished among the top receivers in CIF history in receptions, yards, and TDs
LB Zach Alligood ’20 finished with an obscene number of tackles to shatter the Torrey single season record and lead the country
I hope to see many of our alums and families on Friday for our annual alumni flag football game at 10 am (sign up HERE!).
Thank you all for your support and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Go Torreys!
